This map of Beleriand, hung in my flat's hall, is a collaborative work between my roommate (Antoine BECQUET) and me. It asked us around five hours of working, but a good part of it was spent drawing the forests... x) It represents the lands of Beleriand, Hithlum and Angband, places where the most part of Tolkien's Silmarillion lays. To sum up the story : Morgoth, first Prince of Night, had stolen the Silmarils of the High-Elves, jewels of great value, and had brought them at the deepest of his citadel : Angband. Thus the High-Elves came back to Beleriand to fight against him a desperate war, allied with Sindar ("Elfes of the Sunset"), Edain (the "nice" Men) and Naugrim (Dwarves). Little description : - At the top are the genealogic trees of the Houses of the High-Elves and the Sindar. They aren't well-done, our pen run... At the right, the sundering of the Elves. We just drew and wrote what was in the book... >__> - At the bottom, a quote from "Of the ruin of Beleriand" : Fingolfin, High-King of the High-Elves, desperate after the ruin of many Elvish kingdoms because of an assault of Morgoth, goes to Angband to fight a single combat against the God of Evil. It's truly an epic part of the book. - The map itself : We drew the book's map, but we added the lands of the North which aren't in it (without any reason :/). Thus, the positions of Angband, Helcaraxë and Ered Engrin are extrapolations.
The scan is high-quality !
If you have any ideas of nice maps that we could draw, don't hesitate to tell me so !
Really good work. I like pretty much the idea of representing Angband however I think is a bit overdimensioned in comparisson with the rest of the map. In any case it´s a great work, no doubt. I have drawn maps of real and fantasy countries and in either cases the work is hard and tiresome, but is worth the effort, isn´t it?
Yeah, Angband is really big, but that's because we wanted to put the focus on it. And anyway, I've always thought that Angband was effectively big : it's Morgoth's kingdom, realm of fear and darkness, hidden beneath and behind the Thangorodrim, the highest peaks in the whole world ! It deserves to be overdimensioned.
Thanks for your compliment. It was hard work, yeah, but as I see it everyday when I walk home, I think it was worth it ! I hope we'll find the time to do Valinor too (or any other, actually !).
Middle Earth wouldn't be very funny to draw (we already have an official one in our hall which is really beautiful :/) but I'll think about it.
Valinor would be funny, though. But I don't know which source would be the most precise... If you know from which book we could work, it would be a great help !
Welcome. It's also a great reference book- it includes info about the places, the time periods, and (if I recall correctly) a day by day listing of what happened during the Quest. It's pretty interesting to see...
Congratulations!
Thanks for your compliment.

I'll have a look at it.
